Whose Report Will You Believe?

We are still discussing the topic of Women Empowerment this month.  There are so many ways in which we can empower ourselves-especially as women of color!  If there is one word I would use  as a synonym for empowerment is this: self-care.  Yes, I’m back on that again.  One of the activities included in the book Self-Care for Black Women by Oludara Adeeyo includes making a financial plan. We need to be proactive regarding our finances instead of reactive. In her affirmation song, "CurrentSea” by Toni Jones, she states that “Improving my finances is a form of loving myself.”  THAT is empowering!

Reading and utilizing the tools presented in the book Get Good with Money by The Budgetnista  Tiffany Aliche, is one avenue to improving your finances.  Before we can set a goal about where we want to be regarding our finances, we have to be honest about where we are.

Our credit report is a great start for this discovery.  In Chapter 5, Aliche discusses how we are viewed financially-through our credit score and our credit report. Do you know how you look through the eyes of financial institutions? When was the last time you pulled up your credit report? Did you look at your credit score? Believe the report you see. If you don't like it, change it. If you do like it, maintain your score!
