What Type of Soil Do You Have?

I have listened to, read, and reread the Introduction and Chapters 1 & 2 of the book The Garden Within by Dr. Anita Phillips. There are so many similarities between people and gardens! When we discuss gardens, we have to discuss the soil.

In Part 1- Soil Power, Dr. Phillipis states, "The soil of our hearts nourishes our lives, spiritually, mentally, and physically." In the Bible, we are told to "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." (Bible NLT).

Everything pertaining to life deals with the heart. You can hear a baby's heartbeat as early as six weeks. A person is not considered dead until his/her heart doesn't beat. Our heart is important. It can be a determining factor in the quality of life we have. What is the condition of your heart [soil]?

Soil is used to anchor the plants and provide nutrients. Our spiritual hearts do that for us as well. How often have we had moments of despair put our hand over or close to our hearts? How many times have we heard good news and clasped our hands together and brought them close to our hearts?

Interesting Facts:

There are six different types of soil. The type of soil determines a land's value. The condition of our hearts determines our value to ourselves, our families, and our communities.

There are six basic emotions. Just like the color wheel, our emotions don't always fit neatly into one category, so our feelings may look more like the image on the right, but they are derivatives of the six basic emotions.

Gardner's Garden

If you are like me, I had to purchase soil for my raised garden beds. Is it just me, or was there more mulch than soil? For those who are not gardeners, mulch is simply a protective layer of a material that is spread on top of the soil (according to the Department of U.S. Agriculture https://www.usda.gov/peoples-garden/soil-health/mulch). Mulch is good, but it doesn't replace the soil; it should be used in conjunction with the soil for plants - not replace the soil How many times have we settled for less than what we needed to thrive the way we should?
