Memoirs and biographies are powerful pieces of literature that not only entertain people, but also bear witness to the resiliency of the author. I have read several memoirs by women of color who are forces to be reckoned with in the entertainment world. These four caught my attention by their written words, and made ABC network a must see for Thursday night television!
I listened to the audiobooks when possible (a huge bonus when the author narrates her own story) and I COULD NOT STOP! These women have walked the red carpet and rubbed elbows with the Who’s Who in Hollywood. While listening to each lady's story, I found myself with similar experiences and found each lady relatable and their stories inspiring.
Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Cicely Tyson (How to Get Away with Murder) and Shonda Rhimes (Creator of both shows including Grey’s Anatomy) opened their lives and hearts in their boos-stories that other women of color could identify with. Life is not always rainbows and unicorns, but each lady has come out smelling like roses!
