An "AHA" Moment

There is nothing like having an “aha” moment when learning about yourself.  While focusing on empowerment, I had no idea I would run head-on into a self-realization. I Don’t Know How To Rest! with a clap on every word!

Yes, we all can close our eyes and eventually drift off to sleep, but do we rest? Can we sit still and quieten our minds to bring the peace we need or are our minds in constant motion?

I came to this revelation when I had to stay home from work because of allergies. I don’t normally have issues with pollen and allergies but this season is something serious.  I texted my colleague that I needed the day and she replied to get some rest.  What is that?  I’m getting the sleep, but I'm not getting the rest!

Everyone should have a friend who can be honest with them.  After talking with my sister and best friend, she suggested I revisit our bookclub read Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving by Celeste Headlee (a self-described “light-skinned black Jew")

.

While attending the National Book Festival in Washington, DC in September 2022, I heard the author, Celeste Headlee, discuss the topics covered in her book.  After listening to her speak, I was convinced I needed her book.  My book club, Women of Light, decided to read this for one of our book reads later that year.

If we don't continually practice what we have learned, issues will arise and we revert to practicing unhealthy habits. I had to skim some of the points I had highlighted (so glad I made notes) and start reapplying some of the principles discussed. The notes I highlighted detailed how to adjust my attitude and my way of doing things to bring about the self-care that I continually need.

I highly recommend adding this book to your library if you don't have a copy and start applying the principles Headlee outlined in her book!
